Club Championships Day 2 - Junior Singles - 8 May 2017

Third successive title for Shae

The 2017 Club Championships continued on Monday with the Junior Singles.

Twenty-four players were split into six groups for the preliminary round stage and the top four seeds all won through comfortably. It was not the case, though, for the fifth and sixth seeded players. Amandeep Dhak was beaten by Sonny Dalston and Kush was beaten by Harry Coles.

The two quarter-finals produced wins for Holly Long, 3-0 over Sonny Dalston, and for Douglas Claridge-Hansen, who beat Harry Coles 3-1. The runs of both Holly and Douglas were then ended in the semi-finals by Shae Thakker and William Fricker although Douglas did take one end off William.

The final itself produced a third successive Junior Singles title for Shae who beat the 2014 champion William in three comfortable straight games.

The Club Championships continues. Next up: Open Doubles tonight (Tuesday 9th (7:40 pm) and concludes with the Open Singles next Tuesday (16th, 7:40 pm). There is no pre-booking involved, members are invited to simply turn up and register by the times noted.
