Lawrence Magics the Doubles title

The 2017 Club Championships continued on Tuesday with the Open Doubles.

Five pairs of players played a round-robin. The ultimate winners were Maciej “Magic” Dlogozima and Lawrence Harvey who won all four of their matches but were pushed very hard by the runners-up Elroy Hull and Graham Trimming. In the match that decided the destiny of the title, Magic and Lawrence recovered from 8-6 down in the first game and 8-3 and 10-6 in the second to go 2-0 up. Elroy and Graham fought back to square the match 2-2, saving a match point in the fourth along the way, then the fifth game was nip and tuck with the winners ultimately securing the match 11-8.

Keith Hall and Zsolt Varga finished in third place after another close result against Bas Mocharrafie and Elena Tant but had to recover from 2-0 down to do so.

The Club Championships concludes next week with the Open Singles on Tuesday (16th, 7:40 pm). There is no pre-booking involved, members are invited to simply turn up and register by the time noted.
