The Cippenham ladies' team won all five of their matches to become Division 2 champions in the VETTS Super-60s Team Competition over the weekend. New signing Dawn Pearce won all eight of her matches while Mary Heffernan, who went unbeaten in the same competition last year, lost only once. Sue Hayes and Celia Hooker both won three times.

The margin of victory was close as Cippenham went in to the final match against Iron Belles needing to win it to leapfrog their opponents and secure the title. As with three of their other four matches, they eventually won this tie 4-2 but how tight it turned out to be! Julia Johnson won both her matches for the Belles and so Cippenham had to win the other four. Mary and Dawn had eclipsed Linda Roff and Doreen Tierney respectively 3-0 to square the match at 2-2. The final two rubbers were oh so close. Belles led both of them 2-0 only to Cippenham to fight back and win by the narrowest of margins. Celia played Tierney in the fifth set, needing to win, and from 2-0 down she won the next three games 16-14, 12-10, 15-13. How the nerves must have jangled! Then, in the final encounter of the weekend, Dawn suffered a similar fate to Roff, finding herself 2-0 down. Dawn then rallied and won the next three games 11-7, 11-6, 12-10 and so the culmination of four incredibly tight deuce games had brought the divisional title to Cippenham.

The weekend had started with a 4-2 victory over Eldon. Dawn won two with Sue and Celia making up the winning scoreline. With Dawn rested for the second match against Quinies, it was Mary who came to the fore with a brace supplemented by one each from Sue and Celia. Saturday concluded with yet another 4-2 result with Mary and Dawn sharing the successes. Sunday morning's match was against the bottom team, Rugby Rebels, and Cippenham duly won 5-1 with Sue being the only loser.
